Sibu Airport takes action to keep rats grounded, at bay

IN RESPONSE to the sighting of rats at one of the eateries at Sibu Airport, authorities have taken swift action to prevent a recurrence of the situation.

Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said the council installed rat traps around the airport area which confirmed the presence of the pests.

“The Sibu Airport management was informed of this.

“A letter was issued directing them to take proper measures to eliminate rat breeding grounds in the airport area,” he added.

At the same time, the council has told food handlers to undergo health inspections and attend food handling courses.

Sempurai added that the council would always take public complaints seriously.

He assured Sibu folk that the SRDC staff would periodically monitor the pest control activities carried out by Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad.

“After the recent inspection, we found the cleanliness level at all premises at Sibu Airport to be satisfactory,” he said.

“Therefore, we did not issue any fines or further directives.” — By ANDY CHUA
