EMERGENCY measures should be adopted by Sarawak’s water authorities to address frequent supply disruption to Sibujaya, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

The Dudong assemblyman, in a Facebook post, said this included the immediate installation of a new water pipe to the township so residents could have uninterrupted water supply.

Tiong said he was told that the recent supply disruption was due a damaged water pipe.

However, its location close to a fuel tank of a petrol station meant that repairs could not be rushed.

“Using the location of a petrol station as an excuse (for the water supply distruption) is unacceptable.

“Why was petrol station allowed to be built next to the water pipe in the first place?

“Why is there no strict supervision when approving projects?”

Tiong warned that the fuel tank might combust and explode if repairs were carried out without careful study.

He also noted that the water supply problem in Sibujaya was not a new issue.

“Many residential areas have been facing problems such as no water supply and low water pressure for many years.

“But as usual, the relevant authorities have chosen to turn a blind eye to many things.”

Tiong said there were many problems concerning water and electricity supply which had not been dealt with.

“Therefore I call on the Sarawak Public Utilities and Communication Ministry to take it seriously.”
